Afrobougee is an emerging online publication based in Ghana, which describes itself as an "Afro-privileged journal designed to capture and ignite the mind and creative soul." The site recently debuted its Nouveau Noir campaign for which they tapped rising Ghanaian actress Maame Adjei of the popular web series An African City. Adjei, who stuns in the vibrant series of color and black-and-white images, was selected as the muse and face of the editorial campaign based on her reputation as a creative renaissance woman who embodies the mission of Afrobougee and the Nouveau Noir movement. In their own words, "the Nouveau Noir are living proof that everything we hoped Africa would be is here, whatever we were walking towards as far as the self-actualisation of the people, the thoughts and the ideas, are all here."

For the multi-talented Adjei, who moonlights as a producer, model, and vintage stylist when she's not in front of the camera, the opportunity to elevate her country and culture through the arts is time well-spent. In a statement released by Afrobougee, Adjei said:

“I feel an absolute sense of responsibility to ensure whatever I share with the world resonates with who I am. There is nothing specific I gear my creativity towards as long as it’s authentic to me and is making some sort of impact in any way, shape or form. I hope a time comes when I’ve exerted myself, when all my creative talents have been put out there fearlessly, even if those things aren’t successes. I still feel like I’m holding back a lot, so when I learn to let go I’ll feel complete."
