Kid Tini surprised his fans with a new EP yesterday. The five-track EP is titled Sound Mind, and comes with only one rapper feature—ATM member Ranks appears on "Sucker Free." Production is handled by Kreazo and Ndumiso Mdletshe, one half of the duo Blaq Diamond.

Sound Mind opens with what is one of the rapper's best songs to date. The song, titled "DOA" sees Tini tell a dark story that starts with him stranded at 3am and ending up stuck with a mysterious character who gives him a ride.

The rest of the EP is easy on the ear, with Tini serving bars reflecting on his life and rap. Kid Tini is a rapper's rapper, and on this EP he serves his core fanbase what they fell in love with him for, and that's raps.

Apart from releasing some singles aimed for the radio this year, Kid Tini released the song "Get Money," which featured veteran rappers Stogie T and Styles P. The song revealed a sharp and hungry Tini who maintains his form on Sound Mind.

Kid Tini's debut album is supposed to drop this year, but there hasn't been an announcement of a release date. The EP came without any mentions of the album.

But who's complaining? An EP in which a rapper focuses on rapping without any concern for radio-friendliness and other music business constraints is always welcome.

Sound Mind is the first project from Kid Tini since his critically acclaimed debut EP Coming of Age, which the emcee dropped under the indie label TinismDotc0m. Kid Tini is currently signed to Ambitiouz Entertainment.
