Odumodublvck & Tiwa Savage Connect For New Single "100 Million"

The new track and music video comes ahead of the Nigerian rapper’s debut tour with Shallipopi.

Collaboration is a defining ethos of ODUMODUBLVCK’s music. Ever since he started releasing gritty innuendo-laced music from his neighborhood of Abuja, the rapper has constantly sought ways to bring other artists into his sonic landscape, whether it’s through the Anti World Gangsters collective or featuring a Nigerian American rap stalwart like Wale on his first studio album, EZIOKWU. Anyway one considers it, there’s a deep bag of tricks Odumodu reaches into whenever he’s in the studio with a musical peer, and oftentimes they tend to be artists he respects.

“100 Million” is the artist’s first record since the uncut version (a kind of deluxe version) of that acclaimed first album, which featured African rap stars Black Sherif and Nasty C respectively, on “WOTOWOTO SEASONING” and “A1 PERICO”. Tapping up Tiwa Savage for the new song, he carries her mellifluous vocals into the bouncy terrain of rap, and of course she delivers beautifully.

Between both artists there’s an harmonious exchange of vibes and opulent imagery, which is further colored by Sholz’s luxuriant production. Sharp synths and trap drums propel the narrative of a night out in Lagos, the attendant crowd which follows the celebrities and the expectations of being “shown love,” a Nigerian phrasing which has to do with money more than it does with avowed displays of affection.

Mixed by frequent collaborator UCEE, there’s a glossy finish to “100 Million” that’s familiar to anyone who has keenly observed the artist’s tendency to couch his realist narratives within beautiful, lush soundscapes.

The new result comes off the announcement of ODUMODUBLVCK and Shallipopi’s nine-date U.S tour, which is due to begin in Minneapolis this April and features dates at New York City’s Irving Plaza, Atalanta’s Tabernacle and Los Angeles’ The Wiltern before ending at Dallas’s iconic House of Blues center on May 27.
