This past weekend kicked off the 20th edition of the African Diaspora International Film Festival in NYC. Not to worry if you're off to a late start– the series runs until Sunday, December 15th. In the coming days we'll mission to the festival's various Manhattan (and one Queens) locations– including The Thalia Cinema at Symphony Space, Quad Cinema, The Cowin Center and Chapel at Teachers College, Columbia University and the Black Spectrum Theatre in Queens. Namaste Wahala is the film debut of Indian businesswoman turned filmmaker Hamisha Daryani Ahuja. She released the first poster for the movie on Tuesday, showing a young couple in elaborate wedding regalia, and it's been met with humor and excitement from people online.

Tributes Pour Out In Remembrance of Ugandan 'Queen of Katwe' Actor Nikita Pearl Waligwa

The 15-year-old star passed away on Sunday after a battle with brain cancer.

Nikita Pearl Waligwa, one of the young stars of Disney's Queen of Katwe, died on Sunday after a 4-year battle with brain cancer. She was 15 years-old.

The rising actress played Gloria in the 2016 film, based on the life of Chess prodigy Phiona Mutesi, which also starred Madina Nalwanga, Lupita Nyong'o and David Oyelowo.

Waligwa stood out in a scene in which she taught Phiona—who went on to excel in several international chess tournaments—the rules of the game. A pleasant presence on-screen, she delivered the memorable line: "In chess, the small one came become the big one."

One person has been reported dead after Ugandan police reportedly attempted to disperse a crowd of Bobi Wine's supporters, according to the BBC.

The incident took place yesterday in the capital city of Kampala where the musician-turned-politician was planning to resume his consultative meetings at the Pope Paul Memorial Community Centre in Ndeeba, a neighbourhood in Kampala.
