Joburg-based producer Micr.Pluto stays pushing the envelope. The mainstay of the country's beat scene recently released an EP, Sonic Atlas. The three-track project features Durban singer RHEA BLEK and veteran rapper Raheem Kemet.

The lead single "Metanoia," which features RHEA, blends the singer's soulful vocals with moody production consisting of eardrum slicing synths and a selection of airy pads that creep in and out of the song's subtle but present bassline. Robin Fassie-Kock's trumpet finds space to co-exist with all those elements in the song.

The music video for "Metanoia" is Afrofuturistic, which is an aesthetic we have grown to expect from the producer and the label he runs Subterranean Wavelength. The artist had this to say about the idea behind the visuals:

"The concept behind the video is about a summoning or a calling to the main character (RHEA BLEK) by 'spiritual' guides inviting her to a different 'world.' So they're basically inviting her to a different dimension and introducing her to a new reality. But overall the concept speaks to progression and making advances as an individual, stepping out of you own zone really. This whole idea was based around RHEA BLEK's experience with writing the track, and what she was going through at the time (which was basically breaking out of a depressive state and setting herself up for better things)"

The producer says working with RHEA was a seamless and organic process. "Everything just came together naturally from production to writing and recording," he says. "What I like about her is the seriousness with which she approaches her writing, but always managing to keep it fun. That balance is a unique trait."

Micr.Pluto worked with long-time collaborator Vuyo Serote to develop the concept of the music video. "I feel like this video was about highlighting black people in empowered states, overcoming , transcending and going just beyond the stereotype of how we are portrayed," says the producer.
