Ghanaian Curator Smallgod Releases Star-Studded Album, ‘Bridging the Gap’

The 17-song Bridging the Gap by Smallgod features a diverse list of contributors from across Africa and the diaspora, including Black Sherif, Ms Banks, Nico & Vinz, Bien, Projexx and more.

Smallgod’s ambition is evident in his album titles. Seeking to connect popular music and artists from across Africa with their kin from the diaspora, the Ghanaian entrepreneur and curator, who’s lived in London and Amsterdam, has made his name facilitating intriguing collaborations.

Today, he’s released his third album, Bridging the Gap, a title that’s similar in sentiment to his 2021 debut, Building Bridges, and the sophomore Connecting the Dots. On the new 17-song project, his reach spans far and wide for a set that primarily connects Ghana, Nigeria and the U.K. It includes a handful of previously released singles, including “Automatic” with Nigerian singer Lojay, and the Black Sherif-assisted “Fallen Angel.”

Bridging the Gap features contributions from 30 artists, as it spans catchy Afrobeats tunes, dancehall bops and varying types of melodic and hard-hitting rap tracks. In addition to Lojay and Black Sherif, there are several solo feature songs, including British Ghanaian rap artist Ms Banks on the sultry dancehall track, “All Mine.”

The bulk of the album, though, is catered to multi-artist fares, which includes combinations like Ghanaian singer King Promise and London-raised Haile on the log drum-propelled “Oh My Days,” as well as Kenyan singer Bien and Norwegian duo Nico & Vinz on the romantic cut, “Addicted.” The rest of the album is filled out by Jamaican singer Projexx, Nigerian rapper ODUMODUBLVCK, British Nigerian singer/producer Maleek Berry, and many more.

With Bridging the Gap, Smallgod continues to provide his vision to pan-African musical unity.
