Zimbabwe will hold its first elections since the ousting of Robert Mugabe on July 30, CNNreports.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa made the announcement on Twitter, saying the national elections "will be free, fair and transparent, and the voice of the people will be heard."

"I call on all candidates to campaign peacefully and focus on the issues that really matter," he continues. "What unites us as Zimbabweans is far greater than anything that could ever divide us. I look forward to engaging with my fellow citizens on the campaign trail."

CNN reports concerns that Mnangagwa, who's been Zimbabwe's interim leader since November, could delay the vote to extend his stay in power.

This election will be the first time since the country gained independence that Mugabe's name will not be on the ballot.
