Two years after its release, Sinkane's Mars LP and its singles — "Jeeper Creeper," "Runnin," & "Warm Spell" — remain heavy staples in the Okayafrica offices. Since making his solo introduction, Sinkane (aka Sudanese-born/BK-based multi-instrumentalist Ahmed Gallab) has remained a creative force. Most recently he served as the inaugural music director/bandleader of The Atomic Bomb! Band live tribute to the music of William Onyeabor alongside David Byrne, Damon Albarn, the Lijadu Sisters, Dev Hynes, Money Mark, and his own bandmates Jaytram, Ish Montgomery, and Jonny Lam. This fall, Sinkane returns with a new LP, Mean Love, which Gallab co-produced along with longtime collaborator and childhood friend Greg Lofaro. The first taste off the record comes with the silky smooth retro ballad "Hold Tight." The slow-slinking burner plays like a Gayngs-ian hat-tip to Sade's 80s songs. Look out for Mean Love to drop 9/2 on DFA Records in North America and City Slang worldwide. Stream the lead single from Mean Love below.
