Boasting an artist roster that encompasses the legendary and the groundbreaking, from Robo the Technician to Fifi, Johannesburg avant-garde indie label Iapetus Records stands as one of the most forward-thinking proponents of cutting-edge music in South Africa today. The label recently told us about Yugen Blakrok, a name we'd been hearing about since the early 2000s when she made a guest appearance on the Hiphocalypse mixtape (named after Rhodes University’s campus radio show of the same name).

Yugen Blakrok's latest album Return of the Astro-Goth, out this week, is a challenging listen — a delicacy in an age where fast-food cookie-cutter rap music is the preferred meal for consumers.
