Here Are the Nominees For the 2019 AFRIMA Awards

Nasty C, Davido, Burna Boy, Tamer Hosny, and the late DJ Arafat lead the nominations for this year's All Africa Music Awards.

The 6th edition of AFRIMA (All Africa Music Awards), the annual celebration of African talent from all regions of the continent, is set to take place November 20-23.

Leading the charge this year is South African hip-hop star Nasty C, with nine nominations across categories like Best Male Artiste in Southern Africa, Artiste of the Year in Africa, Song of the Year in Africa, Producer of the Year in Africa, Best African Rapper/Lyricist, and more.

Second up is Nigerian star Davido, who earned six nominations which include Best Male Artiste in Western Africa, Artiste of the Year in Africa, Song of the Year in Africa, African Fans' Favourite, Best Artiste, and more. Burna Boy has five nominations, while Egyptian artist Tamer Hosny earned four nods of his own.

The late DJ Arafat will also be recognized, as he has been posthumously nominated in the Best Male Artiste in Central Africa and Best African Dance or Choreography.

Davido Wins 'Best African Act' at MTV EMAs, Wizkid Snags 3 AFRIMAs and More

See which African artists won big at this weekend's award shows.

This past weekend was full of awards shows and some of our favorite African acts took home some major trophies.

Najia music star, Davido won "Best African Act" at the 2017 MTV Europe Music Awards, beating out Wizkid, Nasty C, and more to claim the title. He wasn't there to accept his award, but the artists shared his excitement about the win on Instagram.

Just moments ago, Davido shared on Twitter that he also won the Best Worldwide Act at the EMAs. The artists is having a very successful year to say the least. Congrats to him!

Davido also dropped "Fia," last week, the highly anticipated follow-up to his hit song "If." Watch the video below.

Davido isn't the only afrobeats star who had a fruitful awards season, Wizkid took home three awards during this year's All Africa Music Awards in Lagos, hosted by the one and only Akon. He snagged the Best West African Artist of the year award, Song of the Year and Artist of the year.

Our new digital music service, Okaymusic, took home two awards with Nigerian star and Okaymusic signee 2Baba winning for Best Artist or Group in African Reggae & Dancehall and Cameroon's Montess winning Best Female Artist in Central Africa.

Additionally, Tiwa Savage won Best West African Act (Female) and Simi took home Best Songwriter of the Year

Meet the Senegalese Designer Making Math Chic

Diarra Bousso uses algorithms to create designs for her line DIARRABLU.

Who knew that math and fashion could work together so seamlessly? Apparently Diarra Bousso did, the self-described "Creative Mathematician" and mastermind behind DIARRABLU. The Senegalese serial entrepreneur and multidisciplinary artist left a career of trading on Wall Street to pursue design and it paid off. She has just been awarded a coveted spot as the Designer in Residence at the San Francisco Fashion Incubator for her innovative use of equations and algorithms in her beautiful designs.

Daniel Kaluuya Is Producing a Live-Action 'Barney' Movie with Mattel

Yes, you read that correctly.

In a move that absolutely no one saw coming, Oscar-nominated actor Daniel Kaluuya is set to produce a live-action Barney movie in conjunction with Mattel Films. The Hollywood Reporter first broke the story.

Kaluuya will co-produce the film as part of his 59% production banner, which signed a first-look deal with Paramount back in May. Speaking on his involvement with the project and the impact of Barney & Friends, Kaluuya had this to say: "Barney was a ubiquitous figure in many of our childhoods, then he disappeared into the shadows, left misunderstood. We're excited to explore this compelling modern-day hero and see if his message of 'I love you, you love me' can stand the test of time."
