We feel for our favorites having to go through grueling, baseless red carpet interviews, especially when they get through them with tact and wit.

Daniel Kaluuya's interview with Sky News is a great example of that—especially a particular part of the exchange that didn't make the network's cut on social media. Here's the original video to reference.

As a reporter, I cringe when it's obvious that a fellow journalist hasn't done their homework to engage with a subject in a meaningful way. When Kaluuya was asked in regards to the impact of Get Out, "What does telling this story mean to you," he rightfully asked in turn, "In what sense?"

The reporter responds:

"It's got so much attention, it's a very different story, it ticks a lot of boxes in some ways, it raises very important things."

Is it me, or is it likely that the reporter (still) hasn't seen the film to be so vague? Watch the clip below.

"We're not boxes, though," Kaluuya clarifies. "Articulating black experiences aren't boxes—it's our truth. We're human beings. And it's amazing that Blumhouse, QC Entertainment and Universal have empowered Jordan to tell his side of the story, to have a black protagonist...it doesn't mean you have to compromise cinematic technique."

Although Kaluuya didn't bring home the golden statue for best actor in a leading role, his subtle response to the reporter shows that he's aware of his real purpose of why he does the work—and we're here for it.
