Jannis of Jakarta Records Shares His 'Arabic 60s/70s Vinyl Mix Part. 2'

Jakarta Records' Jannis Stürtz shares 'Arabic 60s/70s Vinyl Mix Part. 2,' a compilation of songs he discovered while touring North Africa.

Jannis Stürtz, the co-founder of Cologne-based label Jakarta Records, delivers nearly 40 minutes of vintage music in his Arabic 60s/70s Vinyl Mix Part. 2. Comprising songs that he discovered while touring North Africa with Blitz The Ambassador and participating in Tunisian studio sessions with Oddiseefor the Sawtuha compilation, the energetic mix blasts funk-heavy sounds from Morocco, Algeria, Libya, Syria, Lebanon and Egypt and features artists like Lebanese arranger Elias Rahbani and the late Egyptian composer Baligh Hamdi. As Stürtz explains on the soundcloud page for Arabic 60s/70s Vinyl Mix Part. 2, "while being there I did some digging and found some incredible music from the 60s and 70s. Some of the music in this mix has zero info on the net, was never sold on eBay and has not been "rediscovered" yet. Others are somewhat classics in the field of 'arabic groove.'" The lack of information is almost refreshing, though, and Arabic 60s/70s Vinyl Mix Part. 2 itself is often electric and entrancing. Listen to itbelow.
