South African comedian Trevor Noah has been tapped to join the cast of Comedy Central's The Daily Show With Jon Stewartas the show's newest contributor. The current GQ South Africa cover star was born in Soweto to a South African mother and a Swiss father, and he draws on his biracial upbringing in pre- and post-apartheid South Africa for much of his comedic material. A celebratory tweet from Noah the day after the surprise announcement confirmed his casting:

Noah is one of the most sought after media personalities in South Africa and has hosted numerous events in his home country, including the South African Film & Television Awards,the South African Music Awards and the South African Comedy Festival. The 3o-year old funnyman has also helmed two seasons of his own late night talk show, Tonight With Trevor Noah, and and was named as one of the Thirteen African Celebrities To Watch in 2013 by Forbes. After building international buzz with a sold out run of his one-man show, The Racist, at the 2012 Edinburgh Festival Fringe, Noah continued his trailblazing comedic trajectory with North American television appearances on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Late Show with David Letterman, and Totally Biased With Kamau Bell.

Hosted by Jon Stewart since 1999, The Daily Show has launched the film and television careers of former and current correspondents alike, including Steve Carrell, Stephen Colbert, Kristen Schaal, Larry Wilmore and John Oliver. Noah is currently touring through Australia, New Zealand and South Africa, but is scheduled to join the cast of the late night news show come December 2014.
