Video Premiere: Bom Sone 'What A Life'

Aboubacar Sidibe aka Bom Sone constructs streetwise tunes that straddle hip-hop cyphers, dancehall ragga, Mamaya (traditional Guinean vocalism) and djembe rhythms. A founding member of the Conakry hip-hop group CBS (Conakry Baridy Sembeh Ma), Bom Sone has stamped his mark as a veteran of the Guinean music scene. The Matoto-shot video for "What A Life" (above) is both a cautionary tale to Guinean youth about the many obstacles they face — poverty, disease, malnutrition, warfare — as well as an emotional call for them to share all that their culture has to offer. Find "What A Life" on Stronghold Sound's Sembeh Ma Fa Fe compilation of modern Guinean rhythms — which you can stream below and purchase on iTunes.
