Chimurenga Renaissance, the project from Shabazz Palaces' Tendai Maraireand Hussein Kalonji, shared their latest Kudada Nekuva Munhu Mutema mix this week.Similar tothe group's riZe vadZimu riZe LP, Kudada Nekuva Munhu Mutema combines a number of eclectic sounds, spanning from traditional Zimbabwean instrumentals to British psychedelic funk and hip-hop beats. The mix runs through tracks from Zimbabwean duo Zimbabwe Legit, reggae/dancehall staple Junior Reid, and R&B newcomer Tinashe, as well as chanted Zimbabwe African National Liberation Army war songs. It also features Jacob Mafuleni and Tonderai Ndava of Mbira dzeMuningaas guests for some masterful mbira playing and several new Chimurenga songs from their forthcoming album Proud To Be African EP, including the title track and “Crazy.” Chief Boimawas brought on to cohesively mix and bridge the hip-hop and Zimbabwean instrumentals together.
