Has there ever been a time when girl groups weren't badass? Rare African vinyl connoisseurs Electric Jive have compiled this mix of popular songs by Mbaqanga girl groups from the 60s and 70s. The Mahotella Queens still draw crowds to their shows with three of the original 'Queens' from the early days. Izintombi Zesi were formed in 1967 to rival the Queens, but by the 80s their popularity all but faded away.
