Dark & Lovely Global Roots is a collaborative effort between Boiler Room co-founder Thris Tian and Blackfoot Phoenix, who run a weekly show under the same name on the London-based online radio station NTS Live. As DJs and musical curators, both Thris Tian and Blackfoot Phoenix have earned a much praised reputation for their broad range of tastes influenced by sounds from all over the world and an incredible ability to blend it all together seamlessly. Thris Tian, who now serves as the Lead Programmer/A&R for Boiler Room, got his start as an apprentice for kindred world-traveler Gilles Peterson at his record label Brownswood Recordings before moving on to help create one of the internet's most succesful platforms for underground and forward-thinking music. Blackfoot Phoenix also serves as a key programmer for Boiler Room, after being first brought in to fill the role of video producer and quickly garnering attention for his natural eclecticism and versatility as a DJ who's performed in cities across the globe – from Shanghai to Tel Aviv.
The well-traveled duo will soon be embarking on a short tour of DJ gigs in South Africa, from July 16 to July 19, with support from a wide array of acts including Christian Tiger School, Spoek Mathambo, DJ Zharp Zharp aka Okmalumkoolkat, Jumping Back Slash, DJ Spoko and Sibot. In preparation for what will surely be an exciting trip, Blackfoot Phoenix of Dark & Lovely Global Roots shares with us an hour-long mix of some his favorite African tunes.
