DJ Spoko 'African Warriors ft. Fela Kuti' [Premiere]

Cover design by Underdog.

SA's beatwork maestro DJ Spoko takes on the afrobeat soundscape of Fela Kuti in "African Warriors," a new loose single which sees the producer sampling Fela's 1986 "Teacher Don't Teach Me Nonsense." For the revisit, Spoko isolates and speeds-up the original's percussion rhythms, bringing them into his frenzied 'bacardi house' production world of pitched-up synthesizers & kwaito-influenced patterns. Spoko is on the heels on having just dropped the expansive 20-track War God LP, which you can grab over here. Stream DJ Spoko's "African Warriors" featuring Fela Kuti below, no better way to commemorate Felabration day than with a high-octane ode to afrobeat's drums.
