Ziggy Marley's Favorite Fela Kuti Songs

Jamaican musician Ziggy Marley shares a 6-track playlist consisting of his favorite Fela Kuti records via the newly launched Fela.net.

Fela.net, the newly relaunched website for all things Fela Kuti, has released a new playlist curated by Ziggy Marley consisting of six of his favorite Fela songs. The list includes many of the afrobeat pioneer's career-defining records, including "Water No Get Enemy," "Lady," and the politically-charged "Zombie." Ziggy tops off his list with Fela's brilliant 1977 tune "Shuffering and Shmiling." The Jamaican musician spoke about his deep-seated connection to Fela Kuti and his music with Fela.net, “Fela is one of my biggest influences in a very spiritual sense. His music is spirit and so is Fela. A recent report by Human Rights Watch has highlighted, with tremendous concern, the increasing persecution being faced by the LGBT community in Cameroon.

There are significant concerns over human rights abuses in Cameroon, according to a report shared by Human Rights Watch (HRW). The campaign group has highlighted the rising persecution of members of the Cameroonian LGBT community which have been documented over the past few months. Security forces in the country have been accused of threatening, assaulting and arresting queer individuals.
