Watch the Official Trailer for 'Queen Sono,' Netflix's First African Original

The show is set to premiere on the streaming platform next month.

Netflix has released the first official trailer for its much-anticipated upcoming series Queen Sono, starringPearl Thusi—and it's packed with drama and action.

The show, which is being described as the the streaming giant's "first African original," is a crime thriller that takes place in South Africa, specifically.

According to a description from Shadow & Act, Thusi's plays "a highly trained top spy in a South African agency whose purpose is to better the lives of African citizens. While taking on her most dangerous mission yet, she must also face changing relationships in her personal life."

Shadow & Act also shared a more detailed description of the show's cast and characters:

The cast also includes Vuyo Dabula playing Shandu, an ex-spy who has taken a different path, and Sechaba Morojele as Dr. Sid, director of the SOG. Chi Mhende, Loyiso Madinga and Rob Van Vuuren, play agents on his team. Kate Liquorish plays Ekaterina, heiress of an oligarch family with ulterior motives. Khathu Ramabulana plays Queen's childhood friend, William, now in a relationship with Enhle Maphumulo's Nova. Abigail Kubeka plays Mazet, Queen's beloved Gogo, who has always supported Queen, no matter the trouble she gets herself into. Connie Chiume, Otto Nobela and James Ngcobo round out the cast.

While Netflix has acquired several programs from the continent, Queen Sono is the first series from Africa that is has developed from inception. It previously acquired the South African series Shadow, as well as several Nollywood films including Genevieve Nnaji's directorial debut Lionheart, and Atlantics from Senegalese filmmaker Mati Diop.

Queen Sono is set to premiere on February 28. Check out the trailer below.
